Six kinds of work.

The full scope of each, including the parts that usually turn up as a surprise on someone else's invoice.

Repair and fault finding

Residential and commercial

Tracing the actual cause rather than replacing parts until the symptom goes away. Dead circuits, tripping breakers, flickering lights, outlets that run warm.

A clamp meter resting beside stripped conductors on a work surface

Included in the scope

  • Circuit tracing and load measurement before anything is replaced
  • Breakers that trip under load tested against the circuit they protect
  • Failed outlets, switches and fixtures replaced to current standards
  • Aluminium branch wiring assessed and remediated at connections
  • A written note of what was found and what was done

Panels and service upgrades

Residential and commercial

Replacing an undersized or obsolete panel, and increasing incoming service where the load calculation actually requires it.

A moulded case circuit breaker mounted in a distribution board

Included in the scope

  • Load calculation before a service size is recommended
  • Panel replacement with every circuit identified and labelled
  • Service upgrade coordinated with the utility and the inspection
  • Grounding and bonding brought up to current requirements
  • Whole home surge protection fitted at the panel where wanted

Lighting

Residential and commercial

Layout, fixtures, dimming and controls treated as one design problem instead of a list of fittings to hang.

Pendant lights hanging from a white ceiling with exposed timber beams

Included in the scope

  • Recessed and pendant layouts planned against the room, not the ceiling grid
  • Dimmer and driver compatibility checked against the fixtures specified
  • Under cabinet, cove and task lighting with concealed supplies
  • Exterior, path and security lighting on appropriate controls
  • Switching and scene control, including retrofit into existing walls

EV charging

Residential and light commercial

A charger on a circuit sized for it, on a panel that can carry it, installed where the cable actually reaches the car.

A wall mounted electric vehicle charger on timber cladding

Included in the scope

  • Load calculation to confirm the existing service can carry the charger
  • Dedicated circuit sized to the charger, not to the nearest spare breaker
  • Load management fitted where an upgrade would otherwise be required
  • Mounting position checked against where the vehicle actually parks
  • Permit and inspection handled as part of the job

Residential wiring

Residential

Rough in and finish work for kitchens, additions and whole house rewires, sequenced around the other trades on site.

An electrician fitting a glass pendant light fixture

Included in the scope

  • Rough in coordinated with framing, plumbing and mechanical
  • Kitchen and bathroom circuits to current outlet and protection requirements
  • Knob and tube or cloth wiring replaced in stages where a full rewire is not viable
  • Smoke and carbon monoxide detection interconnected and tested
  • Finish trim, device installation and final testing before handover

Commercial electrical

Commercial

Fit out, alteration and maintenance for offices, retail units and small facilities, scheduled so the space can keep operating.

Exposed conduit and linear lighting across an industrial ceiling

Included in the scope

  • Tenant improvement fit out, including lighting and power layout
  • Three phase distribution, sub panels and dedicated equipment circuits
  • Emergency and exit lighting installation and testing
  • Data, low voltage and device rough in run alongside power
  • Out of hours scheduling where the work would interrupt trading

Not sure which of these it is?

Describe the symptom. Working out the category is part of the job, not something you should have to do first.
